Alimony changes: What you need to know

Questioner

in 1997 we agreed on one alimony, now ex wants it increased, is that allowed and do I have to pay the difference for all those years? I would also like to know if the extra costs such as welding courses and school trips also have to be paid on top of the alimony?

Lawyer

There is a reason to change alimony if there has been a change in circumstances. This is the case, for example, if your income has increased or decreased, if something has changed in your housing costs or if you have started living with a new partner. If there has been no change in circumstances, there is no reason to change alimony. If alimony is re-established, you do not have to repay the difference between the amounts over the past years. Perhaps from the moment your ex files a request to change the alimony with the judge. Costs of school trips or courses are in principle included in the maintenance. That is an all-in amount, unless you have explicitly made other agreements about additional costs.
