I am from Canada and I moved to the Netherlands in November. I have been working and living at a hotel. I work 40 hours a week and get paid once a month. My pay is only €396 for an entire month. They then deduct some money for my living expenses leaving me with €173. I would really like to know if being paid €396 a month for 40 hour weeks is legal?

When you work 40 hours a week and your pay is € 396,- it might be beyond what you legally have to earn. But you write you also living in the hotel. When it's "for free" you have to add that to your payment.
